- 1⅓ cups (200g) gluten-free self-raising flour
- 1 tablespoon margarine or dairy-free alternative
- ⅓ cup (80ml) golden syrup
- ⅓ cup (80ml) milk or dairy-free alternative
SAUCE
- 1 tablespoon margarine or dairy-free alternative
- ¾ cup firmly-packed brown sugar
- ½ cup (125ml) golden syrup
- 1½ cups water
Instructions
- To prepare the dumplings, place flour in a medium-sized mixing bowl and rub in margarine. Add golden syrup and milk and stir until combined and free of all lumps. Set aside.
- Place sauce ingredients in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until combined and sugar has dissolved. Bring mixture to a boil and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Reduce heat to medium-low.
- Place dollops of dumpling batter in the simmering sauce. Cover saucepan with lid and cook for 25 minutes or until dumplings are puffed and cooked through. Serve immediately, with a dollop of thickened cream, if desired.
