Visit your dentist

Some tooth pain can come and go within a day. This might be due to sensitivity or eating hard foods. However, some tooth pain comes and never leaves. 

If your tooth pain is persistent, you must visit your dentist. Leaving the issue unattended for too long can worsen the issue and cause you to need serious treatment. When you rely on dentists to assess and resolve the issue, you can rest assured your oral health will be restored and the pain will vanish.

If you have been medically diagnosed with coeliac disease, it is crucial to inform your dentist. Coeliac disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion, affects more than just the digestive system. One often overlooked manifestation of the disease is its impact on oral health. People with coeliac disease may experience a range of dental issues, including dental enamel defects and aphthous ulcers.

Rinse your mouth with saltwater

Constant tooth pain might be a sign of infection. The pain and throbbing can be difficult to live with and interfere with daily life. 

Rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater throughout the day will rid it of bacteria from food or decay. Until you see a dental expert, be sure to maintain this routine to prevent the issue from causing more complications. Regular saltwater rinses should help temporarily relieve tooth pain and maintain oral health.

Use cold compresses

Cold compresses are great for reducing inflammation. Paired with regular saltwater rinses, you should be able to find more comfort while waiting to see the dentist. 

Place a cold compress outside your mouth (on top of the affected area) and hold it there for 10 to 20 minutes. The reduction in inflammation should offer some relief. 

Cold compresses can be used a few times daily when the inflammation spikes and you need temporary relief.

Keep your head up

Keep your head up – literally. In addition to trying to stay positive and understanding that the issue will get resolved, you should keep your head elevated.

When you lie flat, the blood can rush to the area, causing inflammation and increased pain. Elevating your head will avoid blood rushes and unnecessary pain. Sleep with more pillows to maintain head elevation. 

Be careful what you eat

What you eat while dealing with tooth pain can make the issue worse. Sugary or hard foods can irritate the area and cause further damage. 

While waiting to see your dentist and resolve the issue, consume a soft and sugar-free diet. You can try treats without added sugar like banana and coconut milk pops to still enjoy your diet yet avoid worsening the issue. Although your teeth might not be experiencing decay, sugar can irritate the gums and increase inflammation. 

Soft foods like bananas, rice and yoghurt, etc., are great for avoiding making the issue worse. It is advisable to avoid chewing items as they can intensify the pain. While foods cannot relieve pain, they can certainly worsen it.
